Brindol is semi-famous town in Thorast.
Location
Brindol is situated on the river Brind, just a shade over 10km from the west coast of Thorast, in the region known as the Kleinius Vale. This walled town has previously gone by the names of Brindford and Brindton before settling on it's current name in the year 310IC.
The name change was to celebrate the town's victory, in 312 IC, over "The Red Fist Army" plagued towns along the east coast of Thorast and had lain siege to the town for over a year. The final showdown between the 33rd Legion and this army took place just west of the town and is now known as "The Battle of the Brind".
Population
Brindol 'proper' has a population of just over 6000 citizens of various nationalities and races. Although not a large town as such (being about the same size as Heerlen on Aanvang Island it is the most 'complete' settlement that visitors to Thorast from the western countries of the Empire reach, and it is a "moderately" cosmopolitan settlement. By that it is meant that the "official" races of the Empire are welcome but others will be treated with suspicion until they have proved themselves trustworthy.
Numerous farmsteads surround the town, adding nearly 1000 extra people to the town's potential population.
Description
Brindol is situated along the south bank of the River Brind, which is the source of most of its freshwater as well as a fairly decent trade of freshwater fish. The easiest access to the town is via either of the two gatehouses on the north bank and crossing over the bridges, although there are a further four entrances. Each entrance has gate house that houses up to a couple of dozen members of the town watch.
Defences
Brindol's main defence is the high wooden wall that surrounds the town. Just six entrances to the town exist, through fortified gates with gate houses.
As is usual, no Imperial army units are stationed inside town. The nearest army garrison is a little over 20 kilometers to the north at "Fort Unstein", so military assistance is typically a day away.
For day-to-day peacekeeping and protection Brindol relies on its town watch which consists of around 200 men - some of whom are volunteers, but most are paid a salary to work solely as members of the watch. The town of Brindol is proud of its watch members, who are reasonably competent, but the town doesn't have huge reserves of funds and so the watch's remit is strictly limited to activity within the town itself.
Brindol does provide a small number of men to help guard the nearby village of Blackroot, but this is more to act as an 'early warning' system for Brindol than any altruistic endeavour.

Notable Places
Brindol, as far as Imperial towns goes, is unusually pious and within its walls are four significant shrines. These are dedicated to:
- Zeus
- Hades
- Athena
- Apollo
Brindol also has a cemetery within its town walls, although due to lack of space this is more of a crematorium. A further, larger graveyard is located due south outside town.
Brindol has what it refers to as a 'School of Magic', called "The Academy for Gifted Youngsters". Whilst capable of training wizards it has nothing like the prestige of any of the colleges in Academia and is considered a 'budget option'.
The region immediately outside of the town is farmland, mostly in the possession of small landowners (owners of a small area of land; the owners themselves may be small medium or large in height). Further out to the North there is a belt of land that is used for vineyards. The most notable of these was the Rivenroar Estate although that was destroyed soon after the end of the last war and no-one has sought to claim it.
