The Lord Chancellors

Soon after Emperor Darameus founded the Cerulean Chancery it became obvious that it needed to be run by some of the most talented (and loyal) mages in the Empire. To this end the Emperor invited a selection of mages to join the Chancery and he promoted six of these to the position of "Lord Chancellor".

These were:

• Bigby
• Mordenkainen
• Nystul
• Otiluke
• Otto
• Tenser

It was the original intention that they be led by the most powerful of the mages at that time, Tasha, but she declined the honour - having her own research to undertake. Still she remained on good terms with the Chancery for many years and assisted them in their initial efforts to bring order to the use of magic in the Empire.

The number of Lord Chancellors is believed to still be just six, although they have many dozens of "ordinary" Chancellors working for them.
