King Tristran
King Tristran Ó Catháin (279 - 340 IC) was the beloved ruler of Erganth until his recent death.
Tristran rose to the throne in 305 IC after the death of his father, King Thomas the 2nd and is a direct descendant of the first Erganthan king, Rónán Ó Catháin. Tristran was the eldest of 4 sons and worked hard to maintain good relations with his siblings throughout his rule, placing them in positions of trust within the royal court but only into places where their talents could do some good, so as to avoid the obvious criticism of nepotism.
The populace of Erganth viewed Tristran as being a cautious, sensible, likeable but slightly dull ruler. He was careful with setting tax levels and the deployment of his military forces. In fact, he was the last of the Kings to commit forces to war against The Alliance of Independent Races and even then it was mostly in a support capacity to the forces of Thorast (which is why Erganth was not a signatory to the Treaty of the Eight Thrones. However, Tristran also had a reputation for being quite single-minded - once he set his mind on something he followed it through to the bitter end.
Tristran was also the head of the Church of The Twelve in Erganth. This was not just a perfunctory title, as Tristram spent many years in the priesthood and took his faith very seriously. Tristran was widely acknowledged as an expert in religious matters and wrote several treatises on the nature of the Gods and piety.
During his life Tristran was a well-built individual who looked younger than his age and who kept a keen interest in sports, particularly wrestling. He was married to Isabelle, the niece of Duke Francis Scholz of Thorast. Tristran was a devoted husband to Isabelle and their three children – Niamh, Lucille and Lonán. He particularly doted on Niamh who took his place as monarch upon his death.
