House Politis

House Politis is one of the more influential noble houses of Bal-Morath.

Identity

House Politis is geographically based in the north-east of Bal-Morath. As with most of the larger houses it is entirely a Tiefling house. No known parts of the family escaped the curse.

Wealth

Politis is primarily a banking family, having made money initially from silver mines but then realising that charging money for lending money had better long-term prospects. House Politis never lends money to people with no capital and so do not have 'banks' as we would typically understand them. Instead they invest in large projects such as sewer systems, castle building, infrastructure and large-scale trade. Practically every noble house owes some money to House Politis. Although the scale of their wealth is debated they are thought to be among the five richest houses in Bal-Morath, and possibly in the top fifty richest organisations in the Empire.

Politics

House Politis, as it's name might suggest, is a highly politically motivated neutral house. Over the centuries it has managed to gain holdings in every archideme and regularly uses its influence to affect votes. Politis is a clever manipulator though and often pushes for changes that benefit houses that owe it money in order to increase the likelihood of keeping interest payments coming in. Hence most houses, if they need a 'favour' will seek the assistance of House Politis.

Among the other houses, Politis has a reputation of being a house that one doesn't mess with and the houses, those that can afford to, keep their distance. Of all the noble houses, only Houses Eliades and Sarris are wealthier and have a longer history (Politis can trace its lineage back to just before the creation of the Empire).
