Bordrin's Watch
At the far eastern end of the pass that runs through the Hammer Peaks between Hammer Hold and Overlook is the Dwarven-run garrison of Bordrin's Watch.
This garrison exists for two main purposes;
- to create a 'control point' for the pass, protecting it from enemies of both the Dwarven people and the Merebian Empire
- to provide military cover for the nearby city of Overlook
Built soon after the Orc invasion of 309 IC this garrison holds a standing force of 500 soldiers (the 9th cohort of the 56th Legion) which, for the most part, also double as Overlook's town watch. However the garrison has maximum capacity of just under two thousand soldiers (equivalent to 4 Imperial Army cohorts) making it potentially one of the largest forts in the whole of Thorast.
On the Overlook side of the pass the fort consists of a long wall, which is 25m tall and over 8m thick at the base, and it is punctuated with steep towers fitted with arrowslits. Battlements cap the wall, allowing sentries to watch the pass and defend it from attack. As is standard in Imperial fort design, atop each tower is a pair of scorpions. Ballistae and scorpions are positioned every 20m along the wall’s length. In the center of the pass is a massive gate. Its doors stand slightly over 20m tall, and it takes 30 cart-horses to pull them open. The gatehouse surrounding the doors consists of two towers, each as tall as the wall and wider than three standing towers together.
