Costurch
Costurch is an underwhelming [[Population Centres|village] on Aanvang Island.
Location
Costurch is located on the north east coast of Aanvang Island, about 8 miles north of the port of Ranst.
Population
The population of Costurch fluctuates but has a permanent population of around 350 people.
Description
Around 120 small stone buildings, clustered around a market square forms the bulk of the village, with a few isolated farmhouses making up the rest. Costurch has a fair sized jetty, which can moor up to a half dozen rowboats, but the waters are not deep enough here to support ferries or merchant vessels. Hence all traffic to the village enters via one of the two roads. The entire village is barely 400m in width.
Despite this the village is pretty self-sufficient with a communal warehouse, a general store, farrier, bakery, smithy and even a watch-house/jail (although there's no local law enforcement).
Defences
Costurch has no defences. It can, at a push, gather a dozen local men to form a basic "brute" squad if necessary but otherwise depends entirely on military support from the militia at Heerlen or the Imperial army from Fort Aanvang. If really desperate the village might even seek to hire an adventurer or two, but the situation would have to be quite dire!
Inns and Taverns
Costurch has a single inn.
Inns:
- The Greyfish Inn
Notable Places
Costurch's most notable place, other than its jetty, is the standing stone circle to the north of the village. The circle's age is unknown but it predates the foundation of the village, which is at least 200 years old.
Notable People
The town has a couple of notable people:
- Eliza Brauer - Owner of The Greyfish Inn and village "mayor"
- Wilhem Haak - Priest of Poseidon
