Iggwilv is the name most commonly used by the talented Mage known more widely as 'Tasha' (creator of the various 'Tasha' spells).
Little is known of Tasha's/Iggwilv's early life. It is known that she was born shortly before the formation of the Empire and that, due to her prodigious talent, she was one of the first mages to be approached to lead the Chancery's fight against the enemies of the Empire - an invitation that she turned down on multiple occasions. As Iggwilv's power grew so too did her interest in making deals with various fiendish powers. Eventually she struck a bargain with the Demon called Graz'zt and became one of the earliest recorded Warlocks.
Soon after Iggwilv and Graz'zt became lovers and Graz'zt began to teach Iggwilv the secrets of the demons, including how to gather their truenames. To aid in this he showed her how to handle and read the Book of Vile Darkness without succumbing to its various curses, and with the power gained from that tome, Iggwilv was able to create her own version: the 7-volume work that she named "the Demonomicon".
Eventually though Graz'zt could teach her no more (lest she gain mastery over him and the Demon Princes) and he released her from their pact, bequeathing her one last gift - the Fiend's Embrace - a cloak made from the skin of a Pit Fiend.
Decades later Iggwilv, still craving mastery over the Abyss created a new pact with the Demon Lord, and rival to Graz'zt, Fraz-Urb'Luu, whom she had previously imprisoned at Graz'zt's request. Fraz-Urb'luu lead an attack against Graz'zt and enlisted Iggwilv's knowledge of her former lover's weaknesses. In that battle it is said that Iggwilv and Graz'zt fought ferociously and each struck a mortal blow against the other. As Graz'zt returned to his home plane he is said to have held onto Iggwilv's soul - taking her to the Abyss with him.
Occasionally there are rumours that the complete set of the Demonomicon are sometimes collected and, together with the Book of Vile Darkness, represent a significant threat to all demonkind. In these enlightened times of course, no-one believe a word of it!
