Proxies are a class of Divine Vassal. Proxies are the "mundane" populace of a divine realm who are not formed from the souls of the faithful departed but, instead, by the will of the other-worldly power that rules that realm.
Proxies are often sent to the Prime Material Plane to act as agents for the Divine Power in question.
Appearance
Proxies can appear in any insect, bird, reptile, mammal, or amphibian form native to the plane upon which they usually reside. In rare instances they can also take on the form of an elemental force, such as fire, water, smoke, ice, etc. However, more commonly they have an animal or humanoid form.
If sent to the Prime Material Plane, a proxy can assume a different form in order to more easily assimilate among the populace there. However, all proxies have a "true" form that they revert to when on their home plane.
Most Proxies keep a low profile, watching the world as it goes by or by gently 'nudging' certain chosen worshippers along a certain path that the Divine Power wishes them to follow.
Familiars and Proxies
All 'familiars' are, technically, Proxies. However, not all Proxies are familiars. The distinction is as follows:
- A Proxy that is sent to the mortal world to do the bidding of their deity, but otherwise is independent, remains a Proxy.
- A Proxy that is given the purpose of being a servant to a mortal by their Deity is a 'familiar'.
