The town of Retreat has wooden palisade walls, a proper town gate with a manned Scorpio fitted to a watchpost above it. In addition it has its own town watch, paid for by the town, currently employs 36 men who are equipped with broadswords and leather armour, which means they can actually keep the peace within the town fairly effectively but would be quickly overwhelmed by an external force.
