Aanvang Island is the smallest of the four islands that make of the kingdom of Thorast. It location, in the strait between Academia and Thorast, makes it a useful stop over point for travellers between the two countries.
Aanvang Island itself is just under 30km from North to South and just 10km East to West (at its widest point), which means that it is possible to walk from one end to the other in a day.
Aanvang owes its political allegiance to Thorast and the garrison at Heerlen is manned by troops that are native to that land. The ferry that runs the 20km or so from Ranst to Lilo is also partly funded by the Thorast treasury.
