Definition

A hamlet is defined as having the following features:

  • An identified road, or common "track"
  • A collection of 5 or more dwellings (building used solely as housing), all within 1000m of an identified road or track
  • A combined permanent population, including all eligible freemen and slaves, totalling less than 70 living individuals
  • A localised form of governance
  • Has no walls or defensive structures
  • Has no organised militia
  • Is not a fort or garrison of the Imperial Army
  • A distinct, but not necessarily unique name


This definition rules out groups of travellers, prison camps, forts


Taxes
