The Ogres on Oberon are large (2.25m/7.5 feet tall) humanoids that have resided in Imperial lands since the signing of the Treaty of the Eight Thrones in 314 IC.

Initially the Ogres crossed over to Imperial lands from Minosha, most likely as raiding parties. Many Ogres, instead of pillaging, decided to settle along the south and west coasts of Chundria. After peace with the The Alliance of Independent Races was brokered the (ever pragmatic) Empire came to an agreement with the Ogres, allowing them to stay in Imperial lands as long as they agreed to fight for the Empire when required.

Although they were used by the Alliance as shock troops and brute squads Ogres are not, by nature, an evil or even particularly violent race. In fact, most Ogres are quite content to lead an agrarian lifestyle and avoid combat wherever possible. Unfortunately Ogres share a common trait with Orcs which is a tendency to become easily enraged. It is this trait that gives the Ogres their fearsome reputation.

It should be noted that Ogres and Humans, whilst they may be physically compatible, are not known to be capable of producing offspring. Heroes with claims that they are 'Half-Ogre' may just be a way to single themselves out, especially if they have great physical strength. A notable example of this phenomena is Boris Da Ax.

Perceptions of Ogres

Before the signing of the Treaty of the Eight Thrones, Ogres were treated in the same vein as Orcs are treated now. These days they are commonly regarded as a nuisance that, as long as they stick to their own kind and don't cause trouble, are widely tolerated. This gives other non-Human races some consolation that, given time, they too will be accepted. However, even after 30 years, Ogre and human communities keep a respectable distance from each other and only interact when necessary. Humans and Ogres may not be "enemies" but they most certainly are still not "friends".
