Thanks to the cosmopolitan nature of the Merebian Empire the available variety of tavern food is vast. However, throughout the Empire there does appear to be a block of "common" foods. These are listed below in a series of very broad categories.
Vegetarian friendly food is demoted by (v). There are no vegan options listed.
"Dry Food"
This category includes pastries, breads and biscuits.
Examples:
- Walnut bread (v)
- Fish tart (the "fish" usually being a garum jelly)
- Cinnamon cookies
- Raisin biscuits
"Soups"
This category includes soups, broths and stews. Basically food that has to served in a bowl and is predominantly liquid.
Examples:
- Pottage (Puls)
- Chikia and lentil stew (v)
- Pinoli stew (v) - a stew made almost entirely with a selection of nuts, such as pine nuts, walnuts, hazlenuts and sweet chestnuts
- Mixed fish broth - usually a combination of "cheap" fish such as mackerel, herring and coley
