Dragons are magnificent flying reptiles of the species known as "Pyrosaurs". A newly hatched dragon is the size of a human male whilst adult ones can reach 'gargantuan' proportions. Each adult dragon is capable of flying hundreds of kilometers a day, at high speed and can breathe enough fire to incinerate a cohort of men from beyond arrow range.

No notes on a fantasy world would be complete without a note about Dragons and Oberon is no exception.

Dragons are also voracious eaters and will consume multiple entire farms of livestock each day. They are immense, terrifying creatures that no-one would ever want to face.

Luckily though this isn't a concern for anyone as dragons are not native to the lands of the Empire. It is widely known that dragons, if any still exist, come from a land far to the west of the Empire and don't travel to Imperial lands with any frequency. The last time even a single dragon was recorded in the Empire was hundreds of years ago and that wasn't even a fully adult one - the prevailing theory was that severe weather had blown it off its intended course and it somehow managed to reach the shores of Kalevala.

Colour

Dragons are known to exist in a variety of colours. Brown is by far the most common one although some specimens are said to be red, black, green, blue or (it is rumoured) even white. They are reptiles after all, and can be found in all of the typical 'reptile hues'. Scholars are quick to dismiss any stories of gold or silver dragons as pure fantasy

Intelligence

The average dragon is, essentially, an animal driven only by its desire to eat and mate. However, there are stories that they are, for a beast, quite intelligent and could possibly be trained. The widespread belief amongst scholars is that dragons are more intelligent than dogs but less so than any humanoid. No dragon can speak, read, cast spells or formulate any plans beyond searching for food.

Draconic

Many scholars believe that the 'Draconic' language is that of dragons. Sadly it isn't. Instead 'Draconic' is the language of the language of the 'Draco', the people that Emperor Darameus battled against for the Empire. As such it is a 'dead' language but not without its enthusiasts.
